Davis and Dow
The dynamic jazz duo Davis and Dow are two strong halves of one BIG sound; a culmination of performing and touring together for 30 years. They tackle jazz, Brazilian and pop standards with a daring sense of abandon with Julie’s voice compared to Ella Fitzgerald and Kelly’s 7 string guitar called “Orchestral”. While their style is deeply rooted in the jazz standard tradition, they weave different genres of music into their repertoire. A Bossa Nova sung in French or a swinging standard with a Bach Interlude.
Julie Davis is everything from scat-singer to balladeer. She grew up listening to the music of Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, and Ella Fitzgerald among others on her parent's vinyl collection. Singing jazz came naturally to Julie from a young age. “A confident singer with a compelling stage presence who possesses a wry kittenish voice with claws.” “She is a stylist that seeks an original twist on everything she performs; a risk-taker who’s scatting suggests she learned in her bassinet”. Julie is also a photographer who enjoys capturing the true spirit of musicians. You can find her work at JulieDowPhoto.com
An alum of the University of North Texas, Kelly Dow is a world class 7 string guitarist who considers himself a perpetual student of the instrument. His primary influences are Joe Pass and Wes Montgomery. He blends all styles from Bebop, Brazilian to Classical to create a strong individual sound delivered with power and sensitivity. “Simply orchestral in support" “Swinging” and “Multi-hued” is how critics have described his playing. Kelly teaches guitar at North Broward Preparatory School where he also started a Suzuki program which fosters teaching guitar at a very young age.
